Community Conversations About Education

For eleven years Conversations About Education in Connecticut have been funded by the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund. These Community Conversations have engaged citizens from 85 cities and towns throughout the state.

Community Foundation of Greater New Haven gnhcf.org
The Community Foundation is a philanthropic institution that was established in 1928 through a bequest. It is the largest charitable organization in our region of 20 towns and over 600,000 people; its endowment is valued at nearly $225 million. It is among the oldest and largest of more than 700 community foundations in the United States.

City of New Haven

Community Mediation, Inc. works closely with the City of New Haven, providing training and mediation services for its employees as well as aiding local government with public policy issues.  CM also works with local police and probation officers to provide mediation to community members.

United Way of Greater New Haven
CM is proud to be supported by the United Way of Greater New Haven, which has been operating in the New Haven area for more than 80 years and which provides funding for over 50 programs at 40 local health and human service agencies.

The Dispute Settlement Center, Inc.

The Dispute Settlement Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to building peace, encouraging cooperation and fostering constructive conflict resolution among individuals, groups, and communities throughout Fairfield County.  DSC offers mediation and conflict resolution training to the people of Fairfield County. Hartford Area Mediation Program

The Hartford Area Mediation Program (HAMP), which was founded in 1984 as a pro bono project of the Aetna Law Department, began operating as a program of the Community Partners In Action in November 1993. Funding for the program comes from the Court Support Services Division. 
HAMP offers community mediation services to residents of Hartford and the surrounding area.

National Association for Community Mediation

In 1994, CM's executive director and 11 other local community mediation leaders jointly incorporated the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM). NAFCM gives volunteers and staff at community mediation centers across the country a national voice and identity to strengthen our local efforts. NAFCM publishes a membership directory that describes 265 community mediation program members and six state mediation association members in 45 states and four foreign countries. New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. (LAA)

New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. (LAA) is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1964 to "secure justice for and to protect the rights of those residents of New Haven County unable to engage legal counsel." LAA was one of the first legal services programs established; the federal government used it as a model for similar programs throughout the country. LAA continues to provide free legal services to eligible individuals and families in the greater New Haven.

Everyday Democracy (ED) is dedicated to finding ways for all kinds of people to engage in dialogue and problem solving on critical social and political issues. ED helps communities by giving them the tools to organize productive dialogue, recruit diverse participants, find solutions, and work for action and change.

2-1-1 Infoline is an integrated system of help via the telephone – a single source of information about community services, referrals to human services, and crisis intervention. It is accessed toll-free from anywhere in Connecticut by simply dialing 2-1-1 and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Multilingual caseworkers and TDD access are available.

The mission of the Department of Banking is to protect users of financial services from unlawful or improper practices by requiring that regulated entities and individuals adhere to the law, assuring the safety and soundness of state chartered banks and credit unions, educating and communicating with the public and other stakeholders, and promoting cost-efficient and effective regulation.

The William Casper Graustein Memorial Fund works collaboratively to improve education for Connecticut's Children by supporting school change, informing the public debate on educational issues, and strengthening the involvement of parents and community in education.  The Foundation also hosts the annual Community Leadership Program, which gives leaders the opportunity to explore their values and understand more fully the opportunities and challenges of leadership in service to communities.
