Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing
Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing
The Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program (HPRP) is a result of Federal stimulus money intended to prevent homelessness during an economic crisis. The program will last for 3 years, beginning in 2009 and ending in 2012. This program is intended to help applicants who but for this assistance, would be homeless. It is not intended as a long-term case management program, nor to address issues of chronic homelessness. Applicants must have an income that is at or below 50% Area Median Income. Through this program, CM is able to expand it's existing HIP to offer Security Deposit assistance.
Security Deposit assistance - In cases where applicants are being evicted, are doubled-up in a home with other families, victims of domestic violence, or currently homeless; CM can award up to $1,200 toward security deposit for applicants who have no other resources and can document their need as well as their ability to pay their rent.
For applicants who do not have enough income to pay their current rent, either in an existed home or a new unit, Columbus House and New Haven Home Recovery (NHHR) are helping individuals and families with some assistance with rent going forward if there is sufficient evidence that the household can pay its own rent in the near future. For individuals and families needing this assistance please contact 211 in order to be referred to the correct agency(ies)
If you are not sure what type of assistance you need, please call 211 where an operator can help you find the program that addresses your circumstances.
